The CMU Weathermen (Fall 2012)

Inspiration: conspiracy theories, the running joke that CMU can control the weather, the fact that many Hunt Staff members were traveling across the US during the summer of planning, NOT the WUO radical group (although we borrowed their logo after learning we had chosen a rather unfortunate name by coincidence)

Plot: The Weathermen is a (fictional) group on CMU's campus who investigates weird weather incidents in Pittsburgh. In the past years, the members of The Weathermen (played by Puzzle Hunt staff members) have gone to various locations around the US and the world to report on unusual weather incidents. Recently, The Weathermen have received mysterious puzzle documents that imply that someone knows the whereabouts of the rumored Weather Machine on CMU's campus.

The Weathermen have compiled all their research and are now seeking help from CMU students in teams of 2-4 to solve these puzzles. As teams solve puzzles, they unlock steps to finding the location of the Weather Machine. Little do they know, they are actually revealing its location to David Snow, a University of Pittsburgh graduate student who wants to steal the machine and use it to do nefarious research for his doctoral thesis. As Snow continues to forward puzzles he is too dim to solve himself, the teams eventually realize with help from The Weathermen that the Weather Machine has been stolen. The winning team goes on a quest to find Snow and the Weather Machine by facing unusual weather-related catastrophes around campus. Teams must pass a classroom where The Floor Is Lava, bewitch a snowman by determining which hat is his by playing a game of Mastermind, and cross a flooded hallway while ferrying a wolf, a cat, and a mouse along with them.

My Role: a fictional version of myself who is the Research Coordinator for The CMU Weathermen and organizes the video weather reports

Logo:
A multicolor logo on a white background. The is a grey storm cloud with a yellow lightning bolt cutting through it diagonally down and to the left. Behind is are three lines that have triangles and semicircles on them, which are used by weather reporters. They are magenta, blue, and red and arced in a way that resembles a rainbow.
